Government makes fresh announcement after the death of Nyeri Governor

The latest announcement regarding the late Governor Wahome Gakuru was made by the government.

The Government has made a new announcement after Tuesday's demise of the Nyeri Governor.

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru on Wednesday announced that the late governor will be buried on Saturday, November 18.

The CS also announced that that he will be accorded a state funeral at his home county.

Three teams have been formed consisting of both the national and county governments as well as senior state officials, relatives and friends to oversee the funeral and burial arrangements of the late Gakuru.

President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday led the nation in mourning the Nyeri Governor.

“I have learnt with profound shock of the death of the Nyeri Governor, Dr Wahome Gakuru, following a tragic road accident at Kabati. My family and I, and the National Government send our deepest condolences and sympathies to the late Governor Gakuru’s family and his Nyeri constituents," Kenyatta said.

The Council of Governors appointed Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok to chair the late governor’s funeral committee at the national level alongside, CS Mucheru, who was appointed by Kenyatta.

The governor died on Tuesday morning following a grisly road accident occured at Kabati Makenji area on the Thika-Muranga road as he was on his way for a TV interview in Nairobi.

He was rushed to the Thika Level 5 Hospital in critical condition after the accident but was confirmed dead shortly thereafter.

The late Gakuru's body was transferred to the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.

Police disclosed that the accident was caused by a tyre burst during heavy downpour that pounded the area early Tuesday morning.
