The decision made by Presidential Debate Steering Committee outlined that the televised debate will only host three individuals based on opinion polls.
The Committee capped the entry level into the debate at 5 percent support. Those with less support as per opinion polls conducted by reputable research firm will not participate.
According to this, Presidential Candidate Abduba Dida might be the only candidate to face off the main contestants – President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA’s flag bearer Raila Odinga.
Dida was the only candidate among the six other Presidential candidates, who qualified to face the two main rivals in the Presidential race.
This follows the Ipsos Synovate poll conducted in May in which he garnered more than 5 percent support.

The Committee divulged that those with lower ratings will participate in a separate debate in order to avoid overcrowding.
“Candidate with less than five per cent popular support showing in opinion polls will take part in separate single pool debates to be conducted on the same dates.
“These guidelines have been developed in line with international best practice in progressive and developed democracies,” the Committee mentioned.
The National Presidential debate is scheduled for July 10 and July 24 while that of the running mate will be on July 17.
