A Principal Magistrate is among five other court officials who have been arrested for the loss of heroin worth Sh30 million and sh600, 000 which was so be used as exhibits.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mombasa Law Courts Principal Magistrate Edgar Matsigulu and four other suspects were arrested on Saturday.
They are accused of mishandling of the exhibits on July 2018, and will be charged with Obstruction of Justice, and aiding trafficking of Narcotic Drugs.
Here is DCI statement;
“Following the reckless handling of Exhibits that led to the Loss of approx. 10 Kgs of Heroin valued at Ksh. 30M & Cash of various currencies valued at over Ksh. 600K, @DCI_Kenya Detectives have today arrested FIVE People - including the Principal Magistrate at Mombasa Law Courts. The incident which happened in July 2018 at Mombasa Law Courts has led to the arrest of the following:- Hon. Edgar Matsigulu Kagoni~Principal Magistrate Mr. Abdalla Awadh Abubakar~Executive Ass. Mbsa. Mr. Lawrence Thoya Bayan~Staff. Mr. Onesmus Momanyi~Court Assistant,Ruiru. All the suspects are in custody & will be charged with the following offences:- 1. Obstruction with Intent to defeat Justice 2. Aiding and Abetting Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs.”
They will be arraigned in Court on Monday.
