A bridge located in Budalangi, Busia County, that was commissioned  by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto has collapsed.

The iconic bridge known as Sigiri bridge came down crumbling under its own weight.

10 construction workers were rushed to Port Victoria hospital after sustaining injuries.

It was still under construction and two weeks ago Mr. Kenyatta had gone to the area to inspect it during his tour in Budalangi.

The Sigiri bridge was funded by the government for a whopping 1.2 billion and is being constructed by Chinese Overseas Construction and Engineering Company.

The project was initiated in order to aid residents to cross River Nzoia where several people have died in the past while attempting to get across.

During the launch, President Kenyatta noted: "Sirigi Bridge will significantly reduce deaths and make it easier for the residents to access markets, schools and hospitals".
