Government spokesperson Eric Kiraithe on Tuesday issued a stern warning to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho after threatening to stop the launch of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) to be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta on 31 May 2017.
Speaking during a press briefing at Travellers Beach Hotel in Mombasa, Mr. Kiraithe told off Joho over his utterances noting that Joho should not go to the media if he wanted to be part of the SGR program.
He warned Joho against issuing the Government ultimatums highlighting that he was free to attend the event like any other Kenyan.
However, Kirathe divulged that:“The Government has a protocol office to organise the programme. My only advice for Joho is Don't go to the media to tell them you want to be part of the program. I hope Joho has the capacity to understand how these events are organised. He cannot be an exception”.
On Monday, Mr. Joho demanded the Head of State to account for the extra Sh100 million for the SGR before its launch.
The Mombasa boss threatened to expose the Head of State and his deputy William Ruto.
“If they think they are going to get away with the SGR, the same way they got away with NYS after swindling our money, they are daydreaming.
“The project was to cost not more than Sh200 billion but the Jubilee government is telling us it has cost more than Sh300 billion. We deserve answers before the launch,” Joho said in Siaya town where he had accompanied Senator James Orengo to present his nomination papers to the electoral body.
The spokesperson accused the Mombasa Governor of always creating propaganda around Government initiatives.
“Gov’ts which want to be corrupt do not initiate projects. They create confusion & promises because they want to create money,” he noted.
Kiraithe told Joho to celebrate the SGR because his people will enjoy its fruit directly.
“Governor Joho should celebrate because in terms of tourism, jobs the people he leads will have a lot to celebrate,” he divulged.
