Two people exposed for using Mama Ngina's name to defraud Kenyans

A court in Nairobi heard a case where two people were accused of using Mama Ngina Kenyatta's name to defraud Kenyans.

Mary Wanjiku told the court that Irene Wanjiku and Fredrick Kinani conspired to defraud her by pretending they could recruit her children to the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).

According to the State, the two falsely pretended they would secure the said children jobs in Germany through Mama Ngina Kenyatta.

This is not the first time the Kenyatta name has been used to defraud people. In February Kenyans learnt that 10 people had used the President's name to con Sameer Africa boss out of Ksh10 million.

Fraudsters

It is alleged that they used mobile number 0722 208842 to call Sameer Africa chairman Naushad Merali, asking him to facilitate the release of the money for the purchase of land, while mimicking the voice of the President.

According to police, Mr Merali was outside the country on a business trip when the fraudsters called him.

He, therefore, gave complainant Akif Hamid Butt, the Finance Director of Sameer Africa, the go-ahead to process the payment, believing he had spoken to the head of State.

Butt was told that the money was for the purchase of land in Milimani, Nairobi, and the fraudsters gave him the number of an account at Equity Bank, into which he deposited it.
