Salesgirl docked over alleged theft of N126,000

An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates' Court has granted a woman bail in the sum of N50, 000 for stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the accused committed the offence between Dec. 20, 2016 and Feb. 27, 2017 at Omisanjana in Ado-Ekiti.

She said  that the accused, a salesgirl, stole N126, 000 from the shop of her employer, one Mrs Abe Folerence of Oke-Omisanjana in Ado-Ekiti.

Ikebuilo said that the complainant, during audit of the account, discovered that the accused misappropriated proceeds from sales.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 390 (6) of the Criminal Code, Cap C16 Vol. 1, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

She applied for an adjournment to enable her study the case file and assemble witnesses.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty, and her counsel, Mr Oluwadare Ayodele, urged the court to grant her bail.

He promised the court that the accused would not jump bail.

The Magistrate, Mrs Omolola Akosile, granted the accused N50, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

He said that the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and have verifiable addresses.

She adjourned the case till April 3, for further hearing.
