The state Comptroller of Immigration Service, Ajibola Bayeroju, made the disclosure while briefing journalists at the command’s headquarters in Abeokuta on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

He disclosed that the suspects were criminally-minded, adding that one of them, Alagbe, is an ex-convict in the Republic of Benin.

Bayeroju said, “The suspects were intercepted in one of the immigration points around Olorunsogo after Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government Area.

“One of the suspects, Alagbe, confessed in his statement to have been involved in criminal acts and subsequently jailed in the Republic of Benin sometimes back.”

Punch reports that Alagbe who claimed the ownership of the two locally-made pistols told journalists that he made the weapons to protect himself “from any form of attack.”

The suspect also reportedly confessed to and intended an attack on one of the NIS officers at Ohunbe/Obelle Control Post.

Bayeroju however, said that the command would continue its raids on border communities in a bid to rid the state of illegal immigrants as well as other miscreants.

The Comptroller said that two locally-made pistols loaded with ammunition, assorted charms, dagger, gunpowder, bank savings and withdrawal booklets and a bunch of keys was recovered from the suspects.

According to him, the suspects will be handed over to the State Police Command for further investigations.

“We shall ensure relentless patrol of our border lines with the Republic of Benin while sustaining raids and repatriation of all illegal immigrants.”

The suspects remain in the custody of the NIS until they are to be handed over to the police.
