Mt Kenya Billionaires Cause Tension in Uhuru’s Campaign Team

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s team has been hit with a fresh headache after powerful billionaires

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s team has been hit with a fresh headache after powerful billionaires clashed over the control of the Jubilee presidential campaign in the Mt Kenya region.

In Nyeri, a section of political and business leaders accused the elected leaders of letting the President down after failing to hit the campaign trail.

The leaders were led by billionaire businessman Wambugu Nyamu who called for the team comprising of elected leaders to resign for abandoning the head of state after they secured their seats.

“We want to take over these campaigns now that JP elected members have gone to slumber after winning their respective seats,” Nyamu, who lost the Nyeri Senate race, stated.

Rachel Ruto is no stranger to making bold yet elegant fashion statements, but during the state visit of the Dutch royals on March 18, 2025, it wasn’t just her outfit that stood out—it was her shoes. The Kenyan First Lady stepped out in a pair of brown suede block heels adorned with a gold emblem.

However, Nyamu’s comments were not well received by a different group headed by Nyeri Senator and billionaire Ephraim Maina and Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua and Maina, who are known for their heavy financial muscles, dismissed the election losers explaining that the absence of political rallies did not mean campaigns were not ongoing.

“We have launched door-to-door campaign trail. We want to raise voter turnout from 86 per cent to 95 per cent to make Uhuru’s win more emphatic,” Gachagua remarked.

President Kenyatta, who is in Nyeri, will on Friday hold a meeting with the different camps at the Sagana State Lodge where he is expected to resolve their differences and form one campaign team.
