According to Kenya Power, this will be in a bid to recover the extra fuel cost incurred during the dry season last year.
Kenya Power normally charges customers an extra fuel incurred when it uses diesel generator.
Their Financial statement for the year ended June 2017 showed that fuel cost went high as a result of the severe drought last year which adversely affected hydropower production.
The Energy company noted that it failed to add the extra charges in 2017 for fear of annoying Kenyans.
“There were delayed fuel cost recoveries for the year ended June 2017 (partial fuel cost recovery) in support of the government’s goal of stabilising electricity costs,” Kenya Power was quoted by the Business Daily.
In a statement, Mr. Kabogo termed the move deceitful noting that it would have severe impact on Kenyans.
“It is wrong and deceitful for Kenya Power Levy backdated fuel charges to consumers. We will sue you. As it is, times are very hard for mwananchi,” he tweeted.
Kenyans have raised concerns after receiving less number of electricity tokens in the past three months.
Kenya Power is looking forward to recovering Sh1.8 Billion and has so far reclaimed Sh2 Billion.
