Few facts about the Gatundu South MP

He was born in 1971.

He attended primary school in Githuya Primary and attended secondary school in Ituru.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1993 from University of Nairobi.

Kuria’s career in politics started its fledgling steps when he was treasurer of Students Organisation of University of Nairobi.

The Gatundu South MP then worked as an auditor, accountant and banker from1994 when he started as an auditor at a firm and ended up at Standard Chartered Bank in 1995 as the head of business process re-engineering, Africa.

In 1997 when he pioneered the bank’s hubbing process. In 1999 he lost an opportunity to become the bank’s head of operation which was taken by Jeremy Awori, now Barclays Bank CEO.

Kuria then left the country in late 1999 for a job at Al Rajhi Bank in Saudi Arabia where he became the manager of business process re-engineering.

He married Joyce Njambi while in Saudi Arabia and together they have two sons aged 12 and 10.

His last stint in the corporate world was at Wamad Information Services in Dubai where he was the chief operating officer before leaving in 2007 to join politics.

He started as director of programs in Rt. President Mwai Kibaki’s Party of National Unity (PNU).

In 2013 he became chief strategist at TNA (The National Alliance) until he became Gatundu South MP where he was directly appointed following the stepping aside of the more popular Kiarie Kamere. It later emerged that Kuria has profound State House backing.

He has been surrounded by controversy since joining early politics. He was arrested on Monday following remarks he made that seemed to incite violence against the Luo people.

He was also arrested in 2016 after making remarks that looked as though they called for the assassination of the opposition leader Raila Odinga.

According to Soft Kenya, Odinga was responsible for having Kuria re-enrolled in school after he and other student leaders were suspended at UoN. Close sources intimate that lawyer Otieno Kajwang’-on Odinga’s request- represented Moses Kuria in court for close to a year, until Justice Mwera threw out the case and ordered the university to re-admit Moses Kuria and his colleagues.
