Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and nine other county officials are set to be arrested after the Director of Public Prosecutions approved their prosecution.

In a statement, Noordin Haji divulged that investigation files from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) indicated that the 10 were involved in the irregular acquisition of integrated solid waste management services.

Mr Haji stated that the evidence presented to his office was sufficient to warrant the prosecution of the 9 officials and the County boss Ojaamong.

The other nine include Timon Otieno Mboga, Bernard Krade Yaite, Lenard Wanda Obimbira, Samuel Osieko Ombui, Allan Okweny Omachari, Madam R Enterprises Ltd, Edna Adhiambo Odoyo, Renish Achieng Omullo and Sebastian Hallensleben.

The suspects will be charged with several offences including conspiracy to commit an offence, engaging in a project without proper planning, abuse of office, willful failure to comply with the law relating to management of funds, failure to pay taxes and fraudulent acquisition of public property.

According to investigations, Mr Ojaamong flouted procurement procedures and went ahead to sign a Memorandum of Understanding  with Madam R Enterprises Ltd (MRE Ltd) in the solid waste management project. This led to the loss of a whopping Sh8 million.
