Comedian Oga Obinna has come to the defence of Rachael Otuoma, the widow of late footballer Ezekiel Otuoma, who passed away after battling Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
The comedian addressed the criticism Rachael has faced online regarding her caregiving and familial responsibilities following Otuoma's passing.
A widow's sacrifice
In a lengthy video shared on Instagram, Obinna praised Rachael for her unwavering dedication to Otuoma during his illness, a role he described as overwhelming and isolating.
I saw Rachael stick with Otuoma. I know 90% of women would have left; however, she stayed with him. Remember, this job is a 24-hour job. She didn’t have a personal life happening.

Obinna expressed frustration over the negative commentary surrounding Rachael's appearance and caregiving approach. He questioned the critics' contributions during the challenging times the family faced, asking, "If you felt she was not doing it the right way, why couldn’t you ?"
Caregiving challenges
Sharing his personal experience with caregiving, Obinna highlighted the immense toll it takes on an individual.
You guys don’t know how caregiving is a lot of work. I took care of my grandfather before he died, and it was not easy.
He urged people to consider Rachael’s efforts and avoid judgment, especially during her grieving process.
Rachael is stressed; she is mourning; she is in grief. Why do you always have to look at the negative side?

Responsibility debate
Addressing concerns about Ezekiel Otuoma’s mother allegedly living in poverty, Obinna firmly stated that Rachael should not be held accountable for her mother-in-law's welfare.
Otuoma’s mother is not Rachael’s responsibility. The same way my wife’s mother is not my responsibility.
Instead of criticising Rachael, Obinna called on those concerned to take proactive steps. "If you think she hasn’t stood with [Otuoma’s mother], why don’t you step in and help?" he suggested.
A message of encouragement
Obinna concluded his message by applauding Rachael for her efforts and urging her to focus on her life. "Rachael, you have done a good job. Continue doing with your life what you want to do with it," he advised.
Burial plans for the late Otuoma are underway.
