<p>Technology has democratised content creation, but it has also blurred the lines between professional and amateur work.</p>

<p>With artificial intelligence tools now able to design visuals, edit videos, and write scripts, the industry is undergoing a silent disruption.</p>

<p>While some creatives use these tools to enhance productivity, others see them as a threat to originality and job security. <br><br>The challenge now lies in adapting fast enough to remain relevant in a world where creativity and technology are increasingly intertwined.</p>

<p>Continuous learning, skill diversification, and collaboration are becoming essential for survival in this evolving space.</p>

Tough realities Kenya’s creatives seldom talk about

<p>Lawyer Steve Ogolla has lived true to the African spirit the belief that success is not complete until it uplifts others.</p><p>Speaking to Naila Kenga on the <i>Art of Living</i> show, Ogolla offered a rare and emotional glimpse into his rural family estate in Siaya County, where he has built identical houses for every member of his family. <br><br>His reason? To restore dignity and preserve unity in the family.</p>

<p>While many who get financial breakthroughs in African households are expected to secure the rest through financial or material support, Ogolla went beyond the traditional sense of provision.</p><p>He built nine identical houses for his parents, three brothers, his nephews, and guest houses not to show wealth, but to make sure no one felt left behind.</p>

<h3><strong>A home that speaks of equality, not status</strong></h3>

<p>Ogolla explained that his inspiration came from how his older siblings supported him while growing up. <br><br>As the second last born, they protected him from responsibilities that would have distracted him from his studies.</p>

<blockquote><p><i>My elder siblings went all out for me they are the reason I am where I am today.</i> <i>So when God raised me to this level, I asked myself, does it make sense to have a majestic house in the village when my brothers live in semi-permanent structures?</i></p></blockquote>

<p>Instead of building a grand home to showcase his success, Ogolla chose modesty. Every house in the compound mirrors the other same design, same layout.</p>

<blockquote><p><i>If you walk into this compound, all the houses are identical including the first grandson’s house. Guests who come in cannot tell where the lawyer’s house is or where the other brothers live. My mum is very proud and happy because she doesn’t have to answer questions about why one house is different from the rest.</i></p></blockquote>

<h3><strong>A family where wealth means sharing</strong></h3>

<p>In a culture where material <a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/articles/entertainment/celebrities/cebbie-koks-confirms-breakup-with-lawyer-steve-ogolla-one-year-after-grand-wedding-2024102822105617836"><mark style="color: rgb(184, 0, 0); background-color: inherit;" class="pen-dark-red">success often breeds separation within families</mark></a>, Ogolla’s approach is refreshingly different. He said his family has deliberately chosen to de-emphasise wealth<i>.</i></p>

<blockquote><p><i>The value of money is in sharing it with the family. You can have big cars and large houses, but if your family is not equally taken care of, you’ll always feel something missing.</i></p></blockquote>

<p>The project began with his mother’s house, constructed in 2017. Using her design as the blueprint, Ogolla and his brothers built the other homes gradually. </p>

<p>The compound now includes four houses for the brothers, two guest houses, a modern kitchen, and a house for his nephew the family’s first grandson. This also accommodates other grandchildren whenever they visit.</p>

<p>Though he did not keep strict financial records, <a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/articles/lifestyle/4-essential-factors-that-increase-or-lower-construction-costs-2025022408425932135"><mark style="color: rgb(184, 0, 0); background-color: inherit;" class="pen-dark-red">Ogolla estimated the total investment at more than Sh30 million</mark></a>, including electricity installation, solar systems, furnishing, landscaping, and a perimeter wall that alone cost about Sh6 to Sh8 million.</p>

<blockquote><p><i>This has been home built by milestones brick by brick,”</i> he said. <i>“It’s about bringing dignity back to the family.</i></p></blockquote>

<h3><strong>The beauty in simplicity</strong></h3>

<p>Ogolla’s homestead, though in rural Siaya, could easily pass for a suburban property in Nairobi. However, he insists the beauty lies not in grandeur but in simplicity.</p>

<p>All the construction work was done by local talent, architects, contractors, plumbers, and landscapers from the area. <br><br>For Ogolla, employing locals was part of honouring his community’s skill and ensuring the project benefited more than just his family.</p>

<h3><strong>A cultural blueprint</strong></h3>

<p>Beyond architecture, the layout of the homestead also follows Luo cultural traditions. The parents’ house faces the main gate, marking it as the head of the compound, while the sons’ houses flank it on either side.</p>

<p><i>The grandson’s house faces the parents’ house because in Luo culture, if a grandson builds in the grandparents’ compound, his entrance must face theirs.</i></p>

<p>Even his mother’s decision to maintain an external bathroom reflects cultural authenticity.</p>

<p>Besides the estate, there is a driveway lined with solar-powered lights, creating a warm glow that welcomes guests into the compound.</p>

<p>When news broke that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had passed away in India, among those hit hard by the news was Citizen TV’s senior political reporter, Stephen Letoo.</p><p>Having covered Raila for years, Letoo suddenly found himself not just reporting history, but living through it a professional assignment that also carried deep personal pain.</p>

<h3><strong>A difficult call to duty for Letoo</strong></h3>

<p>He recalled being told, within minutes of the news breaking, to prepare for the journey. Initially, he hesitated the thought of covering the death of someone he deeply admired was overwhelming.</p>

<p>It was a decision that would mark one of the most emotionally demanding experiences of his career.</p>

<h3><strong>The longest flight</strong></h3>

<p>The journey to Mumbai was far from an ordinary assignment. The usually lively chatter among Kenyan <a target="_blank" class="editor-link" href="https://www.pulselive.co.ke/articles/news/local/emotional-moment-as-uhuru-returns-to-railas-grave-day-after-burial-video-2025102011351823087"><mark style="color: rgb(184, 0, 0); background-color: inherit;" class="pen-dark-red">delegations was replaced by a heavy silence.</mark></a></p><p>Letoo described the atmosphere on the flight as loud in its quietness<i>,</i> with only the sound of meal trays breaking the stillness.</p>

<p>Upon landing, the delegation was on the ground for barely an hour and a half. There was no time for ceremony. <br><br>Raila’s body, not yet prepared for public viewing, was placed in a temporary casket for transport. </p>

<h3><strong>Finding strength among friends</strong></h3>

<p>During the mission, Letoo found solace in the company of two people who were also close to Raila, his daughter, Winnie Odinga, and Nyando MP Jared Okello. <br><br>The three leaned on one another to stay strong as they fulfilled what Okello called their final assignment for Baba.</p>

<p>Despite the sorrow, there was a shared determination to see the task through with dignity and respect.</p>

<blockquote><p>We told ourselves, we can’t be weak. Play your part; I’ll play mine, just like during the campaigns.</p></blockquote>

<h3><strong>A father-son bond</strong></h3>

<p>Letoo’s connection to Raila went beyond that of a journalist and a news subject. Over years of covering his rallies, press briefings, and political campaigns particularly in the heated 2017, 2022 General Election period a deep mutual respect developed.</p>

<p>He described Raila as a father figure, someone who took a personal interest in those around him. </p>

<p>Stanbic Bank has dismissed reports suggesting it is in the process of acquiring NCBA Bank, following widespread speculation that triggered a rally in NCBA’s share price.</p><p>Earlier this week, reports emerged that , Standard Bank Group, had instructed its Kenyan subsidiary, Stanbic Holdings, to initiate buyout talks with NCBA Group. </p>

<p>The report suggested that negotiations could be concluded within months, potentially reshaping Kenya’s banking landscape.</p><p>Following the report, NCBA’s shares surged by 8.27 per cent to Sh75.25 on Tuesday, up from Sh69.50, as investors responded to the news of the possible merger.</p>

<p>If the acquisition were to proceed, the combined entity would hold assets worth about Sh1.1 trillion, positioning it as Kenya’s third-largest bank after Equity Group Holdings Plc and KCB Group Plc.</p>
