Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Monday stated that the horrific fire at Moi Girls School, Nairobi was not an accident.
Speaking during a press conference at Jogoo House, Matiang’i divulged that preliminary investigations revealed that it was an arson attack.
“I have been briefed by the police about Moi Girls fire that the incident was not an accident. It was an arson case,” the minister said.
The CS further noted that they were following leads on specific suspects of the fire that left eight students dead.
At the same time, details indicate that a Form one student at the Moi Girls School could be behind the fierce fire at the institution which left eight students dead.
According to students who spoke exclusively to a local paper, the girl had attempted to commit suicide severally.
“This Form One student had tried to commit suicide twice. First by drinking a detergent and, second by trying to suffocate herself using a pillow,” the source was quoted by the Nation as saying.
