The Senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee (PAIC) has warned Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti over failure to appear before the body.
Governor Cyprian Awiti risks arrest if he fails to show up before the PAIC team over the audit queries, the Senate PAIC said.
PAIC Chairman Moses Kajwang’ said they had summoned Awiti many times in the past but he had never appeared before them.
“The governor now has the last chance to appear before senators. Failure to do so will lead to his arrest,” the Homa Bay Senator said.
"If he fails to respond, we will tell the Police Inspector General Hilary Mutyambai to arrest him,” he added.
Sitting in Homa Bay
The Senate PAIC will hold a sitting at the Homa Bay County Assembly to make it easier for governor Awiti to attend.
Senator Kajwang’ cautioned County bosses saying they will not allow them to boycott PAIC summons.
He pointed out that it's the duty of the senate to oversight on how public funds are spent in counties and failure to do so is going contrary to the job the citizens have entrusted to them.
“We would appear as if we are not doing our watchdog role correctly. Governors should respect the rule of law by appearing when summoned by the Senate,” the Senator said.
