Kenya Red Cross Comes to the Rescue of 39 Students

Rescue comes as schools re-open

The Kenya Red Cross society has come to the rescue of 39 students who were stranded in Kisumu.

The 39 secondary school students were travelling back to their respective schools in Siaya and Busia, but could not proceed due to the ban on long distance night travel by the National Transport and Safety Authority.

This comes as schools re-open for the first term of 2018 after a two month holidays break.

Use of ambulances

The Kenya Red Cross Kisumu branch used their ambulance vehicles to ensure that the students got their various schools on time.

The case has been the same in most parts of the country including the capital city Nairobi where students have been seen spending cold nights at the Bus station.

NTSA ban

The ban on night travel has had parents raise concerns and at the same time calling for the lifting of the ban to enable their children get to school on time.

The ban by NTSA has affected most of the people who had travelled to different places for their Christmas holiday and now have to travel back.

The ban according to NTSA was arrived at after consultations with the ministry of transport and other stakeholders in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of Government, as a measure of reducing road accidents in the country.
