He said it's a shame that after producing Kente designs in Ghana for so many years, the country has not registered the patent rights to its name.

He stated that the Kente design has now been registered by a Chinese, that he owns the patent rights to these Ghanaian Kente designs, and we’re now taking steps as a country to correct.

Boachie-Ansah made this known at an event organised at the Alliance Française in Cape Coast by Creation Africa Ghana, which is a project from the French Embassy aimed at empowering entrepreneurs in cultural and creative industries.

Kente, which originates from the Ashanti Kingdom, is Ghana’s most revered cotton and silk cultural fabric.

There are two main strands of kente in Ghana representing two ethnic groups - the Ashanti and the Ewe (among whom the cloth is in fact known as kete).

However, Chinese counterfeits leave Ghanaian textiles hanging by a thread.

He said West Africans must reject all forms of military takeovers within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sub-region.

Speaking at the 147th Independence Day celebration of Liberia, Nana Addo urged the international community to send a clear message to coup plotters that coups have never been, and will never be durable solutions to Africa's political, economic, and security challenges adding that insecurity in West Africa must come to an end.

The reappearance of coups in Africa, he stated, in all its forms and manifestations must be condemned by all, since it seriously undermines “our collective bid to rid the continent of the menace of instability and unconstitutional changes in government.

His reactions come after men in military fatigues claimed to have taken power in Niger hours after President Mohamed Bazoum was reportedly seized by members of the presidential guard on Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

Nearly a dozen others were also hospitalized in Kenya's coastal Kilifi county after being rescued while waiting for the imminent end of the world.

<h1>The 7th General Secretary of the United Nations, Kofi Annan will be buried in Accra today after three days of public viewing and mourning.</h1>

Annan led the UN from 1997 to 2006 as the first black African to occupy the secretary general position. He died on August 18 aged 80 at his home in Switzerland after a short illness.

The current head of the world body, Antonio Gutteres, is expected to attend the funeral, which will be followed by a private burial at the capital’s military ceremony.

Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected in Ghana Thursday, September 13, to attend the final funeral service of Kofi Annan.

He will be in the company of a host of other African heads of state including Alassane Ouattara of Ivory Coast, George Weah of Liberia, Hage Geingob of Namibia, Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger among others.

Also, a former head of state of Germany will be leading the German delegation to the event with Switzerland and Finland sending former heads of state.

The funeral service begins at 8.30am at the Accra International Conference Centre.

She said "I appeal to the government, head of institutions and the road contractors across the country to do their works with due diligence to avoid unnecessary accidents that claim lives on our roads. If the contractor on this road (the spot of the accident) has sped up work, my daughter might not have died."

Ebony and three other persons were on board a Jeep with registration AS 497-16, travelling from Sunyani to Kumasi when a head-on collision with a VIP bus heading towards Sunyani from Kumasi occurred.

The driver of the vehicle escaped death, however, the other occupants -- a military officer identified as Francis Atsu Vondee and lady identified only as Frankie -- died later at the Bechem Government Hospital after they were rushed to the Hospital, DSP John Adusei, Mankraso District Commander has said.

The driver of the vehicle Ebony Reigns was travelling has revealed that the accident happened because he had tried to save a Sprinter Bus from crashing.

He was treated for a cut under his chin at the Bechem Hospital.

On his part, President Akufo-Addo thanked the King’s envoy for his message, and used the opportunity to congratulate the King Mswati III on his election as the Third Vice-Chairperson of the Bureau of the Assembly of the African Union.

President Akufo-Addo also congratulated King Mswati on his nomination as Chair of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), during the 28th African Union Summit which was held in Addis Ababa this January, and assured the King of Ghana’s support to help achieve a malaria-free Africa.

The President recounted how he, as Ghana’s Foreign Minister and Chairman of the AU Ministerial conclave in Swaziland, in 2005, together with his colleague AU Foreign Ministers drafted the Ezulwuni consensus, which called for a more representative and democratic Security Council.

The goal of the AU, as contained in the Ezulwuni Consensus, was to be fully represented in all the decision-making organs of the UN, particularly in the Security Council, which is the principal decision-making organ of the UN in matters relating to international peace and security.

Full representation of Africa on the Security Council would mean having not less than two permanent seats with all the prerogatives and privileges of permanent membership including the right of veto; five non-permanent seats; and that the AU should be responsible for the selection of Africa’s representatives on the Security Council.

Nearly 12 years after, President Akufo-Addo lamented the fact that little progress had been made since the drawing up of the Consensus in Swaziland. He, thus, urged King Mswati III and his colleague African leaders to help in the advocacy towards the full realization of this consensus.
