In an announcement she made via her Instagram page, the mother of two in a video disclosed that she had been appointed Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
According to Ms Masika, she is excited to be taking up the new role that will make her the first Kenyan to be appointed to the position.
“I believe this role is given to us together to represent our own especially those that we are called to, the vulnerable, persecuted and everyone forced to flee, did you know Jesus was a refugee? Thank you @unhcrkenya @unhcr for this honor,” she wrote.
Ms Masika noted that during her time as Goodwill Ambassador, she would like to meet more people who have been forced to flee their homes and use her platforms to share their experiences, so that people get to know how it feels like to be a refugee.
“Being a Christian and a child of God the scripture says so many times take care of the foreigner among you and so that drew me very much to working with UNHCR,” said Mercy Masika.
She added that the first time she visited Kakuma Refugee Camp she got to hear stories from women who had undergone terrible experiences and it was a blessing to see the women grow despite the challenges.
Ariel
This comes a few years after the ‘Nikupendeze’ hitmaker was unveiled as the East African brand ambassador for Procter & Gamble (P&G) washing powder, Ariel.
Ariel brand manager Francisco Gala stated that the reason why the brand picked her was that she was not only a celebrated household name but also a resilient woman.
“Mercy is not only a celebrated household name, but she is also a resilient woman. She has an eye for value and is the best person to champion Ariel for what it truly is—the detergent that delivers the best value for money by guaranteeing one wash to remove all stains,” Francisco said.
