Vehicles plunge into river after a collision along Mombasa road (Photos)

At least two people were injured after a lorry collided with another vehicle along Mombasa road.

The accident happened on Monday at Mto Mawe area left the occupants of the vehicles with serious injuries.

After the two vehicles plunged into the river, residents moved in to help rescue those trapped inside the vehicles.

Increase in accidents in 2019

In a separate incident, three people lost their lives and sixteen others left with serious injuries at Kamuseny, Elgeyo-Marakwet county.

The police indicated that the Monday accident happened when a lorry which was ferrying construction workers overturned at Kamuseny.

According to the NTSA accident statistics, a total of 1,682 people have lost their lives on the road compared to 1,500 who died by July 1, 2019.

Pedestrians still lead the pack with 620 people have lost their lives in 2019 compared to 576 in 2018.
