Activist Boniface Mwangi was on Monday released hours after being arrested over claims of leading a revolution.

Mwangi, had revealed that he had been apprehended at his house by DCI detectives and taken to the Central Police Station.

Before his release, the vocal activist recorded a statement in regards to why he was taken into police custody.

According to reports, the police indicated that the controversial Mwangi had been taken in for questioning in reference to allegedly organizing a rebellion against the Jubilee government.

Red movement member Beatrice Waithera arrested

The arrest of the embattled activist comes five days after a colleague of his was arrested during an anti-graft protest at Uhuru Park grounds.

Beatrice Waithera, had last Thursday been taken into police custody after the officers disbanded the protest planned by the group identified as the 'Red Movement'.

Mwangi together with a group of other activists had marched to Central police station to demand for her release.

The human rights defender was later set free in the evening on bail.
