In a video going rounds on social media Sonko and his aides are seen handing out jubilee flags and cash to Mombasa residents.

A man in white shirt thought to be Sonko aide is seen dishing out money and trying in vain to organize a surging crowd pushing and shoving each other while stretching their hands out to receive the cash.

Sonko wearing a white Muslim prayer hat is seen looking nervously but coordinating the entire hand out even  freely mingling with the crowd.

"Jubilee eeh... Jubilee aah," they chant after receiving their cash while walking away.

it is not established how much Sonko's aide are handing out but a local daily claims the residents were bribed with Sh50 to attend the Tononoka rally.

The senator has vehemently denied the allegations.

"Kwani kuna shida gani ku coordinate? Unaona mahali tunapea watu pesa? Kwani kuna shida gani kukuwa kwa scene? Hata murder scene watu hukuwa," he said.

Sonko has never shied away in handing out cash to residents to mobilize them for one cause or another in the past.

He added that they were going door to door to ask the people to assemble for Uhuru, as was always the case.

"Tunawatongoza. Kwani shida iko wapi? (We are luring them. Where is the problem?" he asked once again. "Hakuna mwenye alipewa pesa. Hata kama tunapeana pesa hatuwezi peana 50 bob haitoshi (No one was given money but if we gave out cash it would not be just Sh50. That is not enough." He said as quoted by the daily.

The video emerged a day after the President visited the county to launch projects including Mtongwe ferry services where Governor Hassan Joho was barred from the event and placed under arrest in his office.
