Raila's Fathers Day message sparks Controversy

ODM party leader Raila Odinga on Sunday sparked a heated debate among Kenyans with his Fathers Day message, which has since been termed as controversial.

In his message to all dads in the country, Odinga posted a photo while at the supermarket with his son, Raila Junior.

At the shop, Mr Odinga took photos of the empty shelves pinpointing a placard telling shoppers to only pick two packets of unga.

The former Prime Minister took the opportunity to castigate the Jubilee government highlighting that it was sad that the government had made it hard for fathers to provide for their families.

"Today when I accompanied my son Raila Junior to shop for my grandson, I thought deeply about how the collapse of our economy has frustrated the efforts of many fathers who cannot afford to put food on the table because of cost and also unavailability. Inability to provide for one's children hurts and scars a man's dignity.

"On this Father's Day my prayer is that Kenyan fathers must not fall into despair. We as a people must remain strong and focus on remaking our motherland. We can. And we shall. God bless Kenya," Odinga said.

The message, however, took interesting twists with some supporting Odinga while others were irked by the message.

Those supporting noted that the NASA Presidential should be elected during the August 8 General Election in order to improve the deteriorating economy.

Nonetheless, those in opposition stated that Mr Odinga was simply seeking political mileage and had done little for the country.
