Jubilee, ODM, ANC, Ford-K officials summoned over chaos during Kibra campaigns

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Wednesday summoned officials from the four political parties participating in the upcoming Kibra by-election.

The officials were asked to meet with the Returning Officer in charge of the Kibra Beatrice Muli over the recent violence witnessed during the candidates' campaigns.

The RO noted that two of the parties - Ford Kenya and ANC - had filed formal complaints over the violence meted on their campaign rallies over the weekend.

"It was in the media, that there was violence witnessed across some parts of the constituencies; ANC and Ford-Kenya have filed their complaint.

"And this afternoon we have summoned four parties the four parties that were involved over the weekend because there was a slight diversion in their campaign schedule," Ms Muli stated during a press briefing.

Final preparations for Kibra by-election

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati on Tuesday had warned that anyone found culpable for the violence would have stern action taken against them.

The Kibra constituency by-election is slated for November 7, 2019. The top contenders being Jubilee Party's McDonald Mariga and ODM's Imran Okoth.

Others vying for the post are ANC's Eliud Owalo and Ford-Kenya's Khamisi Butichi.

IEBC has already conducted training for elections officials and observers as preparations enter the final lap.
