46 arrested for selling contaminated fuel

They were arrested on Monday

46 people have been arrested for selling adulterated fuel, in Nakuru County.

This was after Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations together with General Service Unit officers raided three unlicensed petrol stations in Salgaa, along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway, where they impounded over 1000 litres of adulterated fuel.

According to the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approximately 1, 000 litres of contaminated fuel stored in jerry cans and drums was recovered.

“The raids conducted in collaboration with officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and General Service Unit (GSU) recovered 1, 000 litres of contaminated petroleum fuel stored in jerry cans and drums,” said ERC.

The ERC further stated that the three stations will be demolished and the 46 will be charged with various offenses among them; construction of petroleum storage facility without a permit, operating a petroleum storage facility without a license, being in possession of adulterated motor vehicle fuel and being in possession of export bound motor fuels.
