Missing baby found after 3 weeks, mother arrested

Consolata was found in Molo after she was reported to have been stolen from her home in Mshomoroni in Mombasa.

According to Police officers who found her, baby Consolata was found in the hands of Margaret Wairimu who claimed to be her mother in Susumula, Molo.

In a report by Citizen Digital, Mombasa OCPD Johnston Ipara said police in Nyali had arrested three people who included the baby’s mother Joyce Wairimu suspected to have sold the child.

He added that investigations were underway to find out the amount of money the child was sold for and the three suspects (Joyce Wairimu, Susan Nyambura and Margaret Wairimu) would be arraigned in Court on Monday.

"Whenever one is reported missing, we must first ask among family members who are responsible because as you have seen in this case, one of the suspects is her mother. You may falsely accuse someone. Parents who give false alarm will face the full force of the law. What we are now investigating is whether or not she sold her at a fee," said Ipara.

After the baby was reported missing, the family appealed to members of the public to help them find their missing child and even put a cash reward of Sh100,000 to anyone with information of baby Consolata’s whereabouts.
