Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday announced that he had opted to take in a university student to be his intern.

Through his social media pages, the former Prime Minister updated his followers on the new addition to his team adding that they met in the US.

"Glad to welcome David Mokenye Onyuoki, a Political Science student at Duke University who will be undertaking his internship in my office following a request he made last October during my lecture tour to the institution," Mr Odinga explained.

The former PM's followers appreciated the move with some of David's classmates congratulating him on his new opportunity.

During his visit to Duke, the ODM party leader encouraged his listeners to be optimistic about a bright future for Africa.

"In the coming decades, Africa’s population will double to some two billion people, and many will be under 18.

"This could bring tremendous opportunities for economic growth. These young Africans could harness new technologies and ignite a new dynamic for growth, but only if they are well-educated, trained and healthy," he stated during his lecture.

In an unrelated incident, a Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology (JKUAT) student on Tuesday attempted to access State House armed with a knife.

Facebook posts by the student identified as Brian Kibet Bera suggest that he had contemplated an attack against President Uhuru Kenyatta.
