A high-ranking IEBC Commissioner traveling to the US on Wednesday hit headlines after she was ordered out of the plane the previous night (Tuesday).
According to reports, Roselyn Akombe was detained at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for failing to produce clearance from Head of Public Service, Joseph Kinyua.
Akombe who was traveling to New York days after overseeing the much disputed General Election was rumored to be fleeing Kenya.
However, the Commissioner has come out to clear the air noting that she was headed to the US for official duties.
In a letter seen by Plive.co.ke, Ms. Akombe rubbished allegations that she was fleeing Kenya because of the elections which the National Super Alliance (NASA) have since termed sham.
"I am deeply concerned at statements attributed to me on my departure from Nairobi. They are completely false and unwarranted. While it is unfortunate that my departure was delayed, I at no time indicated that I am fleeing my beloved Kenya due to questions raised on the credibility of our electoral process.
"I am on official duty to the United States and will return to continue working with my colleagues on the next stages of our electoral process,” Akombe made the statement while in London headed to the US.
