Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore is expected to leave the company in August.
Reports indicated that the reason for the imminent departure of Collymore was due to health reasons.

Sources under anonymity, indicated that the mobile giant had not made any official statement and that the Safaricom boss did not want to extended his contract.

“He (Collymore), wants to concentrate on his health so he did not wish to renew his contract,” stated one of the sources.
The government has however insisted that a replacement for the head of the company should be Kenyan.
Collymore during an interview with an international media house noted that the biggest telecommunication network in the country would continue its operations even after he left.
Collymore takes 9-month leave
In October 2017, the soft-spoken CEO had taken a 9-month medical leave to undergo treatment in London.
He made a comeback to the company in June 2018 and was very open about his condition where he had been diagnosed with cancer known as Acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

The high achieving Collymore pointed out that what disappointed him was not the diagnosis but rather the duration of the treatment which was between 6 to 9 months.
Collymore added that if the condition had not been discovered earlier, he would have died a year ago during Christmas.
