I couldn’t walk out of the house without makeup - This is Ess

It was a crippling world.

While on one hand she enjoys communicating with her fans and building an online presence and her brand, on the other hand she is a fiercely private person.

She admitted that at times, her online presence and private life conflict and maintaining the delicate balance of what and not to share can be difficult. A situation that became so overwhelming that it forced her to take a break from social media in 2016.

“The thing with this beast that is social media is that it has the power to build your dreams to unfathomable heights in the same way it can swallow you whole,” Reads an excerpt from her article on the Wise Monkey blog.

She also confessed that there was a point the perfectly curated image on social media affected her in real life as she couldn’t step out of her house without makeup for fear of disappointing fans. “I felt indebted to my community to the point that I couldn’t step out of the house without makeup lest I disappoint them. A lot has changed since then and I know now more than ever it’s important to release my grip on perfection. Who wants to live in a crippling world that draws from others’ agendas and not your own values or intentions?”
