Speaking during the Big Question interview on Citizen TV, Ruto recounted the controversial meeting he and Kenyatta had with Musyoka at his Karen home.

Mr. Ruto noted that Kalonzo wanted to be the 4th President of Kenya, therefore, he asked the duo to step down because they were facing crime against humanity cases at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

According to the DP, the former Vice President mentioned that it made no sense for the two to seek the position yet their fate was behind bars.

"In fact that night, the reason why we did not engage Kalonzo Musyoka thereafter it is because he told us a very weird thing. A very callous thing. He told us gentlemen, why don't you allow me to become president.

"In any case, you will be in jail for ten years after which when you come back I will be through with being President and you can take over from there. That is how we left Kalonzo Musyoka's house in a hurry because we realized we are not dealing with a friend," he said.

Mr. Ruto stated this following Kalonzo Musyoka's autobiography: Against All Odds, in which he revealed how Kenyatta and the DP elbowed him out of the 2013 Presidential race.

In his narration, the Opposition leader highlighted that the two betrayed him at last minute.

“I clearly remember the night I felt betrayed by Uhuru and Ruto. This was the night our alliance died.

"We had agreed with Ruto that I would be on the presidential ticket, with Uhuru as my running mate or vice versa.Ruto was to be the Majority Leader,” he jotted.

“Then on that night, Uhuru and Ruto arrived at my home in the company of Jimmy Wanjigi, a Nairobi businessman, and political strategist. Mr. Wanjigi is the son of former Kamukunji Member of Parliament and Moi era Cabinet minister, Maina Wanjigi. We walked down to the gazebo where dinner was to be served.”

“Ruto and Jimmy sat silently as Uhuru spoke: “Stephen,” he said, “We have decided that you should choose some other position, but not the presidency or deputy presidency.

’’ I was stunned. I did not know at what point the arrangement we had earlier, of me being on the presidential ticket, had been changed,” his autobiography reads in part.
