The National Super Alliance’s (NASA) Senate parliamentary group is set to meet on Monday to discuss the removal of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula as Senate Minority leader.
The meeting is expected to be attended by ODM senators only as Wiper Party, FORD Kenya, and Amani National Congress (ANC) leaders have objected the ejection of Mr. Wetangula.
The top agenda of the parliamentary group meeting will be to officially nominate Siaya Senator James Orengo as Wetangula’s replacement.
This is after Senate House Speaker Ken Lusaka suspended the removal of the Bungoma Senator last week on grounds that the replacement was not conducted procedurally.
According to a report by the Nation, the meeting will be held at County Hall, within Parliament buildings.
“The Nasa senators have agreed that we meet on Monday to consider the resolution passed by ODM,” a lawmaker was quoted by the local daily.
The ODM Senators have accused Mr. Wetangula incompetence and extremely condescending to coalition partners and colleagues.
Last week, the Ford Kenya Party leader was an embattled man after Minority Whip and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr introduced the motion of his removal through a letter as per the House rule.
Mr. Kilonzo presented the letter following a Parliamentary group meeting attended by 16 senators affiliated to the ODM Party.
However, Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his ANC counterpart disagreed with ODM senator and declared their support for Mr. Wetangula.
"The principals have reaffirmed their total confidence in Hon Wetangula as the official leader of the minority in Senate. Their support for Wetangula in this regard is unwavering," the statement read.
