Stop boiling your underwear in hotel kettles – experts warn

You might want to think twice before using your hotel kettle to make a cup of tea.

So we’re boiling underwear in hotel kettles now? – okay.

Forget about simply using soap and water to clean underwear, some people are actually boiling their underwear in hotel kettles to sanitize them– nasty.

Experts have warned hotel guests not to boil their underwear in hotel kettles because doing so could spread potentially deadly toxins.

Apparently some bacteria that could be from your underwear, could be resistant to even boiling water so they end up sticking to the sides of the kettle.

“These don’t cause sickness when they are consumed but their presence in certain environments can encourage them to produce a toxin that can be deadly,” senior lecturer in molecular biosciences at the Institute of Natural and Mathematical Sciences at Massey University in Auckland, Dr. Heather Hendrickson told Bustle.

The horror does not end there however because professor of microbiology at the University of Arizona, Charles Gerba, says that there is around a tenth of a gram of poop in the average pair of underwear.

That tenth gram could be carrying the Hepatitis A virus and E.coli among other nasty viruses that can resist boiling hot water in a kettle.

So basically the message here, without wanting to state the obvious, is just don’t boil your underwear in not only a hotel kettle but any kettle for that matter.
