Solar Opposites Is the New Cartoon From Rick & Morty Co-Creator Justin Roiland

The trailer just dropped for Solar Opposites, a brand new sci-fi comedy cartoon created by Justin Roiland, one half of the team behind cult favorite Rick & Morty. The new series follows a family of aliens as they land on Earth, and do their best to fit in with their neighbors in suburban America.

While Roiland's creative collaborator Dan Harmon has promised that fans won't have to wait as long as they have previously for new episodes of Rick & Morty, it's good to know that Solar Opposites is here to tide us over until the fifth season .

The cast

The voice acting talent in Solar Opposites includes Thomas Middleditch , best known for playing the lead role of Richard Hendricks in HBO's tech bro satire Silicon Valley, as Terry, Sean Giambrone (aka Adam from The Goldbergs) as Yumyulack, comedian Mary Mack as Jesse, and Roiland himself as Korvo.

Hulu's teaser for the series shows off the same distinctive cartoon style that Roiland deployed on Rick & Morty (those scribbly eye pupils are a dead giveaway), along with a similar blend of science fiction storytelling and earthly humor.

It sums up the premise of the show pretty neatly: the family of aliens seek refuge on Earth in order to protect the sentient supercomputer known as the Pupa, unaware that the planet is inhabited by humans. What follows is a comedy of errors as they seek to conceal their true nature from the locals (a tall order, given the fact that it takes them a while to remember they don't even have noses) and eventually learn a thing or two from their human neighbors.

The release date

All eight episodes of the first season of Solar Opposites will be available to stream on Hulu from May 8.
