Stephen Curry Came Up with a Power Ranking of the Popcorn at Every NBA Arena

NBA star Stephen Currys signature sharpshooting has become a must-see precursor to his games with the Golden State Warriors, and he intends to uphold this tradition throughout the NBA playoffs. In a recent interview with the New York Times , Curry revealed the snack that keeps him going during his famous pregame routines.

Steph Curry Always Eats This Snack Before Games

I really get off popcorn, he said. Its not even a joke.

It turns out, Curry is a popcorn addict. The first thing he does when hes on the road with the Warriors, he said, is Get off the bus, walk into the locker room, put my stuff down, go straight to the popcorn tableIf its really good, Im eating it before the game, at halftime and after.

He is such an aficionado, in fact, that he has developed his own power ranking of the popcorn on offer at each of the NBAs 29 arenas. He uses five criteria-freshness, saltiness, crunchiness, butter, and presentation-to determine where the popcorn at each location falls on his league table.

American Airlines Center, home of the Dallas Mavericks, is currently at the top of the leader board, with scores of five out of five in every category except crunchiness, where it only scored a four.

And no matter which arena hes playing in, Curry claims he can visualize where the popcorn is. While salty, buttery popcorn might not be considered the healthiest thing to be shoveling into your mouth before a game, Currys track record speaks for itself, and so Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr allows it, saying; Whatever he is doing, he needs to continue to do. That is my advice.

Curry asserts that his popcorn habit has no negative impact on his health; he downs it with lots and lots of water, and has a high tolerance."

If thats the routine and you cant question the performance, theres no harm in it, said Dr Andy Barr, a sports scientist and physical therapist. Popcorn is light. Its salty, but its not a heavy substance. Its more about the quantity and if hes well hydrated it cant all be straight performance food. With the grind of an NBA season, sometimes you have to have a little bit of lenience with things.
