Miley Cyrus's Marriage To Liam Is 'Complex'
  • Miley Cyrus opened up about her "complex" marriage to Liam Hemsworth in a new Elle interview.
  • She also shared her opinions on general expectations of women in relationships.
  • Later, Miley explained why she doesn't want to have kids anytime soon.

Miley Cyrus has always spoken her mind when it comes to her music, her love life, and pretty much everything else. And now, the 26-year-old "Mother's Daughter" singer has opened up in a new interview with Elle (she's the cover girl for the August 2019 issue) with all kinds of new details about her recent marriage to husband Liam Hemsworth .

She also used her own experience to weigh in on the general expectations of women in relationships and explain why she's probably not going to have kids anytime soon.

In the interview, Miley discussed-and debunked-the long-held assumption that once you're married, your life is basically over. "I think its very confusing to people that Im married. But my relationship is unique," she said. "And I dont know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because its so complex, and modern, and new that I dont think were in a place where people would get it."

Miley also delved into how she "definitely [doesn't] fit into a stereotypical wife role" and doesn't "even like that word." In true Miley fashion, she's using her marriage to forego tradition and convention in favor of a more modern partnership. "I mean, do people really think that Im at home in a f*cking apron cooking dinner?" she explained.

Miley also talked more about what it's like to identify as queer ( something she's discussed before ) while being in a heterosexual relationship. "Im in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women. People become vegetarian for health reasons, but bacon is still fucking good, and I know that," she said. "I made a partner decision. This is the person I feel has my back the most."

Besides coming up with what is arguably the relationship analogy of the century, Miley opened up more about how her views on romantic partnership have influenced her recent music writing. "I have a new song, 'Never Be Me,' and the chorus says, 'If youre looking for faithful, thatll never be me. If youre looking for stable, thatll never be me. If youre looking for someone thatll be all that you need, thats never going to be me,'" she explained.

And, she didn't hold back in sharing her opinion on how expectations for women often differ than those for men: "When I first played it for [producer] Mark Ronson, he was like, "You cant say that. You have guy fans, and theyre not going to understand what you mean. I dont even understand what you mean." And Im like, "But you wouldnt say anything about it if a man came in and played that record."

Two days later, according to Miley, Mark Ronson had changed his tune. He told her she was "absolutely right," and that he "totally got [her] perspective."

She further explained how parenting expectations often fall along traditional gender lines, as well. "If you dont want children, people feel sorry for you, like youre a cold, heartless bitch whos not capable of love," Miley said.

For her, the opposite is true. In fact, it's her desire to not only love, but protect a future child that has influenced her decision not to have any in the near future. "Weve been doing the same thing to the earth that we do to women. We just take and take and expect it to keep producing. And its exhausted," she said. "...I refuse to hand that down to my child. Until I feel like my kid would live on an earth with fish in the water, Im not bringing in another person to deal with that."

Well, what more can she say? She's just being Miley.
