To recap, for the uninitiated: Cast members Nicole Lopez-Alvar and Clay Harbour had been getting along swimmingly until the suave Christian came along and swept her off her feet. Former pro football player Clay, who avoids confrontation like carbs, backed off when Christian set up a festive date night for Nicole complete with a piatabut Jordan wasn't going to accept that for his buddy Clay.
Despite Clay telling Jordan he absolutely did not need to get involved at all whatsoever, Jordan confronted Christian and Nicole mid-date, tearing the piata down before body slamming Christian to the ground. The two threw punches until production broke them up and host Chris Harrison sent them packing.
TL;DR: Jordan and Christian, two adult men, got themselves kicked out of Paradise over a piata.
Think that sounds ridiculous? Yeah, so does Wells. "It was pretty scary, and just so un-Paradise-y," he tells Women's Health. "It seemed like some other trashy reality TV show."
Wells, who's been behind the bar for three seasons now, says he immediately had flashbacks to last season, when Jordan stole a stuffed dog from David "Chicken Guy" Ravitz and threw it into the ocean. But the difference is that in that scenario, Chicken Guy was "kind of in on the joke, and really just messing with Jordan," Wells explains. "This time, Christian just wasn't understanding what was happening, and it got heated really fast."
Since this isn't Jordan's first time stirring the pot in Paradise, some fans were left wondering if he only made the trip down there for soundbites and screen time. And from seasoned vet Wells' POV, the answer is... well, maybe.
"I think that he came there with the intention to find love and everything, but desperate men will do kind of desperate things," Wells says. And once Jordan realized he hadn't made any strong connections with this season's castand probs wasnt going to live up to his self-appointed "Mayor of Paradise" titlehis intentions might have shifted.
"I think maybe there was a, Well, Im gonna stir stuff up somehow kind of thought," Wells notes. "Im not in his head, but I would imagine it was something to that effect."
Wells isn't the only Paradise cast member who thinks Jordan likes to stir the pot. Here's what BiP alums Astrid and Kevin had to say about the infamous fight:
By the way, if you're reading this as a wannabe Paradise cast member and think picking a fight is a great strategy to raise your profile, you miiight want to think again. Wells says that IRL, the fight was legitimately "really bad" and the scariest moment of the season. "Someone couldve really gotten hurt," he says. "If you think coming on the show and doing something like that is ever a good look, it's just not. That was stupid."
After all, the fight got both Jordan and Christian a one-way limo ride back home thanks to the show's zero-tolerance policy. "You cant fight in Paradise. It's just not what the show is about," Wells says. "If you do that, you gotta go."
...at least until the reunion special, that is, where Jordan and Christian are expected to face off yet again in front of a live studio audience. (Here's hoping producers sat them pretty far apart.) Watch it all unfold on September 17 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
