I might join the Opposition - Sonko declares

Sonko has complained of frustration from powerful state officials

Sonko stated that he would not defend his gubernatorial seat but added that he was yet to settle on the right position to contest in the next general election.

The Nairobi Governor stated that his decision not to seek re-election did not mean that he was interested in the Presidential or even the Deputy Presidential positions.

“Saying that I want to be a one term governor does not mean that I want to be deputy president or the president. Let me do my work and let it speak for me and only God knows what the future holds,” Sonko stated.

He added that he was considering the option of being the Opposition leader or even contesting to be come an MCA - two political posts that he has not held since joining politics in 2011.

"It is not only being DP that is out there. I can also be MCA or leader of the Opposition. These are positions I have never held. It is just politics,” Sonko stated.

He had recently clashed with Interior PS Karanja Kibicho over claims that the senior civil servant was undermining Deputy President's 2022 presidential bid.

Sonko had also admitted that he was contemplating resigning his governorship.
