Iroham, who lives in Jabi, FCT, is facing trial on a two-count charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt without provocation and theft.

The Upper Area Court judge, Mr Umar Kagarko, however, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 after he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Kagarko also ordered the defendant to produce a reliable surety who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned further hearing in the matter until May 3.

The prosecutor, Mr Joshua Ayanna, had told the court that Joseph Ayuba reported the matter at Apo police station, Abuja, on March 4.

Ayanna said that on same date, the complainant went to a night club at Gaduwa Estate, opposite Oando filling station, Gudu district, FCT.

He said the complainant went to attend to a friend outside the club and when he return, the bouncer refused to allow him in, saying he must pay before entering.

The prosecutor added that Ayuba told the bouncer that he was earlier in the club but went to see a friend outside, and Iroham violently hit him in the mouth.

He noted that as a result, Ayuba’s lower jaw got broken and was rushed to hospitalfor medical attention.

He also said that so far, the complainant spent N75,000 in hospital as he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.

Ayanna said that while the complainant was on the ground as a result of the hitting, the bouncer searched his pocket and stole his wallet containing N12,000.

He said another item stolen by the defendant was his Itel phone valued at N12,000.

The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to sections 247 and 288 of the Penal Code.
