Police manning KCSE exams shoots invigilator in bizarre mid-morning incident

Simon Ongiti was working as an invigilator at Gagra Secondary school in Rarieda when Benson Ozeza a sergeant and one of the officers assigned to the examination center shot him in an incident that happened at 10.30 am.

A school teacher in Nyanza is nursing serious injuries on his thigh and hand after he was shot by one of the police officers manning the exams.

He was rushed to Bondo sub-county hospital for first aid before being transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.

Rarieda sub-County Administration Police Commandant Mr Allan Abungu confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.

Early reports indicate the sergeant accidentally shot the invigilator with a colleague’s revolver as the colleague and the invigilators were sealing the papers after the exams had been concluded.

Police were called to the scene and took the injured teacher to hospital. The examinations yet to be done were however not interrupted as they went on smoothly as planned.

The teacher was a primary school teacher assigned the invigilator role this exams.
