Why being too active at work can be dangerous for your health

Researchers at the VU University Medical Center analyzed 17 studies that investigated the effects of job related physical activities.

193,000 men were studied who had varying degrees of physicality in their jobs.

Those who were the most physically active on the job had an 18% higher risk of dying early compared to people with less active occupations.

This is to be differentiated from leisurely physical activity or deskercises.

Intensive physical activity related to a physically demanding job can instead become a burden to the heart.

This leads to a consistently high heart rate and blood pressure during the entire day.

Such people with physically demanding jobs may not be getting the type of exercise that could be beneficial for them.

Not all physical activity is beneficial.

Guidelines are necessary to take this into account when designing exercises that would benefit people with such jobs.
