Orengo declines to represent Jubilee's Alfred Keter in court

Why Orengo declined offer to represent Keter and offered job to Kipchumba Murkomen and Kithure Kindiki

Details have emerged that Orengo who is one of the best lawyers in Kenya was approached to secure Keter’s release and represent him in court after he was arrested on allegations of fraud but he declined to do so.

According to The Star, Orengo who helped the National Super Alliance (NASA) win the 2017 Presidential  Elections Petition wanted nothing to do with the case.

In declining the request, he directed that Jubilee lawyers and legislators Kipchumba Murkomen and Kithure Kindiki should handle the task since presumably it was one of their own in police custody.

A section of analysts have opined that Orengo made the decision so as not to offend the opposition coalition NASA by representing a member from the rival Jubilee camp.

Recently, Jubilee legislator Johnson Sakaja came under attack after he secured the release of Embakasi MP Babu Owino.

Unlike in Babu Owino’s case, only MPs allied to Jubilee party but who have issues with the party came to his rescue.

Joshua Kutuny, Silas Tiren and Gideon Moi stood by the Nandi Hills MP who has had a series of clashes with the Jubilee party, securing his release.

He was released on a Sh 2 Million cash bail after spending last weekend in police custody.
