Explained: How David Ndii is a close relative of Jubilee Party Boss

Despite the rivalry, the Ndiis have a family connection with Jubilee leader

Early this week, Ndii was arrested in a dramatic incident that forced his wife, Mwende Gatabaki Ndii, and his mother to come out in his defense.

Unknown to most Kenyans, however, the Ndiis are close relatives of top figures in the Jubilee administration.

David’s wife, Mwende, is the daughter of former Senior Chief Peter Gatabaki of Thakwa, Githunguri.

Mwende’s brother, former Githunguri MP Njehu Gatabaki is married to a sister of Jubilee Vice Chaiman David Murathe.

Murathe is one of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s closest advisors and long-serving aides.

Ndii’s niece, Natasha Gatabaki-Njee, is married to Solicitor General Njee Muturi- another of President Kenyatta’s trusted allies.

Mwende, who is one of Kenya’s pioneer IT experts, was forced to appeal to President Kenyatta to release her husband on account of their personal relationship.

"I have a message for the President. Uhuru Kenyatta sent a special request to the president of the African Development bank requesting for me to come and champion the presidential digital transformation of Government, his project, which he started because of the attack on Westgate”.

"I want to ask the President where is that gentleman in 2014? who asked me to come and create a single source of truth to create transparency in Kenya? My husband's arrest is not transparent,"  Mwende complained.

Her husband was later released although he is still facing a court case of incitement.
