Cost of Inauguration disclosed
The inauguration ceremony of Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto total cost amounted to Sh. 352M according to a report in parliament.
The money was divided among the various key roles which included; security, lunch and for attendance purposes.
Interestingly the largest amount of money went to security and logistics which was Sh 146.3M. The cost included that of ferrying VIPs and the payment of the security personnel who were present.
Foreign affairs was the second biggest expenditure which used up Sh 98.9M.
Lunch was another key activity that consumed quite a huge amount. The guests who were present at the historic event together with head of state exhausted Sh 46M.
The Media and communication team as a whole parted with Sh 45.9M while entertainment took Sh 15M.
The report was presented to parliament after it resumed its duties but it was not directed to any specific committee for analysis.
According to the report, 180,000 people attended the remarkable ceremony but majority of whom followed the event on screens since they could not fit the stadium.
Interior principal Karanja Kibicho had earlier revealed that the budget would cost Sh 384M including that of Jamhuri day which was two weeks later.
The committee asked parliamentarians to amend the law so as to enable the president retain full powers ‘temporary incumbency’ in an instance where the court nullifies an election like what happened on 1 September 2017.
The temporary incumbency will thus enable the president reshuffle individuals holding cabinet dockets, ambassadors, judges and commissioners.
