Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has theorized that President Uhuru Kenyatta was collecting evidence against ODM leader Raila Odinga in order to send him to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in case violence erupts after the August 8 Election.
In his analysis titled: ICC for Raila? Decoding the PEV Talk, Mr Ngunyi opined that President Kenyatta’s recent attack on the Former Prime Minister accusing him of igniting the 2007/2008 Post Election Violence, was a coded message.

In his analysis titled: ICC for Raila? Decoding the PEV Talk, Mr Ngunyi opined that President Kenyatta’s recent attack on the Former Prime Minister, accusing him of igniting the 2007/2008 Post Election Violence, was a coded message with three possible meanings.
According to the political scientist, Kenyatta’s message to Odinga was that he was ready for him if he tries to propagate chaos in the country.
“Uhuru's attack on Raila was coded, it had three messages. One, Raila is not above the law yet he behaves as though he is. If he was behind the 2007 PEV they will forget about it but, however, if violence is part of his plan in this election then they will hand him over to ICC. But in the meantime they are collecting evidence to his end,” he claimed.
Secondly, Ngunyi mentioned that Mr Kenyatta also wanted to let Odinga know that he had ‘read his script and was well aware of what he was scheming ahead of the Election’.
“Uhuru understands Raila and he knows that he wants to stop or boycott the election if he senses defeat. His attack on Raila was simply to let him know that he was ready for him,” he stated.
The analyst added that the President’s message was also a warning to NASA co-principals – Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula - of a possible back-stabbing scheme by Odinga in case chaos break out.
Ngunyi noted that just like in 2007 when Odinga ditched William Ruto and sent him to the ICC despite the fact that he was in his ODM camp, the three principals could also be thrown in the fire in a like manner.
“Uhuru’s message was very simple Raila ignited the violence then he blamed it on Ruto thereafter he fired Ruto from Cabinet in the most humiliating manner.
“If he could do this then he will do it now. In other words if you shake Raila’s hand, you must check your hand thereafter. He will sacrifice them if need be,” Ngunyi added.
Last week, President Kenyatta accused the ODM chief of the 2007/2008 violence highlighting that: “Raila was at the centre of the 2007 chaos in which Kenyans fought but he blamed it on Ruto.”
