3 KDF soldiers killed

Seven other injured soldiers were airlifted to Nairobi for further treatment.

Three Kenyan Defence Forces soldiers were killed along Elwak-Kotulo-Wajir road in Mandera.

The soldiers were heading to Mandera when their truck overturned killing the three and injuring others.  Initially, there had been reports that it was a terrorist attack. However, military spokesperson, Colonel David Obonyo refuted those initial reports.

Seven other injured soldiers were airlifted to Nairobi for further treatment. “The bodies of the three soldiers and the injured have since been airlifted to Nairobi,” Mandera South Deputy County Commissioner Daniel Bundotich said when confirming the incident.

There has been increase in insecurity in the area. In August, Al Shabaab militia attacked and killed a police officer before burning down two vehicles in Mandera town.
