Details have emerged of a looming shake-up in government that will see Deputy President William Ruto’s allies miss out on key state jobs as President Uhuru Kenyatta taps in new talent to deliver on his campaign promises.

The Saturday Standard reports that those opposed to DP Ruto’s 2022 bid are poised for plum appointments to head various parastatals and boards, leaving out those allied to the team Tangatanga that is allied to the DP and strong critics of the handshake.

The publication reported that among those who are tipped for the appointments are former MPs Dennis Waweru (chairman Kenya Investment Authority), Nicholas Gumbo (chair Kenyatta National Hospital Board), Joshua Toro (chair National Irrigation Board) and Frankline Bett (reappointed chair Agricultural Finance Corporation).

Former MPs Ochieng Mbeo (chair Fish Marketing Authority), Dan Mwanzo (chair Kenya Ferry Service), Jamleck Kamau (chair, Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority), Shakila Abdala (Child Welfare Society) and Stephen Ngare (chair National Housing Corporation).

The move that will pile pressure on DP Ruto’s allies in government and serve as a wake up call to rebel MPs from mount Kenya backyard will also see several individuals allied to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka serve in government.

Kalonzo’s confidant and former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe is tipped to chair the Kenya Water Towers Agency, former Machakos Women Representative Susan Musyoka, was set to be appointed as member of the Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources, Training and Research in Eastern Africa while former East African MP Peter Mathuki will sit at the Kenya Investment Authority.

New political alliance

Others are Nation Group Editorial Director Mutuma Mathiu (chair Kenya Copyright Board), former Cabinet Minister Noah Wekesa (reappointment as chair Strategic Food Reserve Oversight Board) and reappointment of former Machakos County Speaker Bernard Mung’ata (ICDC).

The reports come in the wake of revelations by team Kieleweka of a political alliance in the offing, bringing together President Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and KANU’s Gideon Moi.

Saturday (today) will see members of team Kieleke camp in Kakamega where they have revealed that a clearer sign of the political union will be revealed in an alliance that could complicate matters for the DP in 2022.
