Deputy President William Ruto, on Saturday, 29 February 2020, set Twitter ablaze after he gave a hard-hitting response to Raila Odinga who earlier this week slammed millionnaires looting public resources yet claiming that they are hustlers.

“The theft of public resources is now called hustling. The sacking of corrupt and incompetent individuals is now called targeting our people.” Raila had stated, adding that “it must and has to be done or we will have no nation to save“.

The Remarks appear to have angered the self-declared hustler who has come out with hard-hitting remarks targeting the former Prime Minister who he accuses of insulting Kenyans.

“Tinga, the privilege being VP's son is no license for you to insult hustlers.Kenyans hustling as bodabodas, hawkers, traders, small SME's, are NOT thieves but decent hard working citizens deserving RESPECT. 'Ama mtoto wa maskini akipata ameiba, lakini wa tajiri akiiba ni biashara'.

A section of netizens poked holes on The DP’s comments, stating that Odinga was not referring to hard working Kenyans in his remarks but was in fact referring to wealthy individuals who plunder public resources and their source of wealth remain a controversial and closely-guarded secret.

“Correction please Mr. Dp. Tinga has not insulted hustlers. He's talking about 'hustlers' who hid behind the name to steal” Wrote Laban Mars.

A few also questioned why the DP appeared to be angry at the remarks yet he was not named by Odinga in tha hard-hitting remarks.

Elmago wrote: “Lmao…When corruption is mentioned he (DP Ruto) thinks he is the one being mentioned. Is corruption your synonym?”.

The remarks saw some netizens revisit scandals that the DP has been caught up on just to confirm that he is no ordinary hustler like the bodabodas, hawkers and traders he was referig to, but has in fact lost cases and featured in scandals.

DP Ruto's extra-ordinary hustling filled with scandals

Jack T Mwangi reminded the public that in the course of hustling, the DP was found guilty of illegally acquiring a 100 acre piece of land from a poor farmer and was ordered by the court to surrender the land back to the farmer and pay the damages.

In a bid to assert that the DP is no ordinary hustler, another user revisited the Weston land saga in which it was established that land on which the hotel owned by DP Ruto stands is a public land belonging to Kenya Civil Aviation Authority.

Are you the one stealing sir?

@AmoBabuLao sought a clarification from the DP asking: ”Are you the one stealing sir? Tinga didn't mention you”.

One Kunga summed up stating that “Lakini tusemeni ukweli, this guy is no longer a hustler”.

“Accepting that you are also a rich man won't deny us to vote for you if we have to. Stop using hustlers phrase for Selfish advancement to higher office when real Hustlers on the streets are being chased by Kanjo like Burukenges!” added Sammy Monoo.

Masinde 001 reminded the DP to go slow on Odinga, reminding him that his children will also bear the same tag he has been using to slam Odinga.

“Your Excellency @WilliamsRuto , has it ever hit you that your children WILL ALWAYS be referred to as Deputy President's kids?! I thought you should know. Because they can never be regarded as hustlers. For all intents and purposes. Don't let us tell them what you're telling Baba”. Wrote Masinde.
