Bundles of cash I carried to parliament during rejection of Sugar report was for a wedding - Jubilee MP

The MP was accused of bribing MPs with Sh10k to reject sugar report

Endebess MP Robert Pukose dismissed reports that he was among those who disbursed cash to MPs to reject the report on contaminated sugar, saying the money was meant for Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno’s wedding.

Pukose had been accused of giving MPs Sh10,000 each to reject the report prepared by the Joint Trade and Agriculture committee.

He, however, stated that he was not distributing – but receiving Sh10,000 from 29 MPs who contributed to Ng’eno’s wedding.

Ng’eno, who is set to wed this weekend, said that he could not comment on the activities that happened in Parliament Buildings but added that he was aware that some MPs were collecting contributions towards his wedding.

Wajir woman representative Fatuma Gedi and Pokot South MP David Pkosin have also denied being part of the bribery scam.

"I can prove my claims about my colleague Gedi. She was doing it openly. It would only need a review of CCTV footage because I remember well the colour of her dress. Her intention and the majority who dismissed report was to frustrate sugarcane farmers and please cartels," Barasa stated.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has since ordered an investigation into the matter.
