President Uhuru Kenyatta, Saturday 29 February 2020 made a plea to legisltors drawn from Nairobi County Assembly to shelve their bid to impeach Governor Mike Sonko.

The President made the remarks at State House when he hosted the MCAs in a week that saw Sonko cede some of the county’s key functions to the national government.
The president told the lawmakers to "act in the greater good " of the county.
Nairobi County communications director, Elkana Jacob stated that the MCAs agreed to drop the impeachment motion and focus on service delivery as advised by the head of state.
Sonko has been through a tough time politically and is facing charges of corruption that have soiled his first term in office.
Leader of minority in the county asembly, Peter Imwatok who skipped Saturday meeting maintained that the plans to impeach the governor will go on as planned.
Imwatok who moved the private motion stated that it will be tabled in the assembly on Tuesday.
"My motion is private motion and has not been affected by the meeting. I will still bring it on Tuesday," said the Makongeni MCA.
Among the grounds cited in the push to impeach Sonko include gross violation of the Constitution, incompetency, an inability to lead and holding the county at ransom with the lack of a deputy governor.
A total of 62 MCAs out of 122 had expressed support of the motion and had appended their signatures.
